Whenever there&#8217;s a roadhouse in danger, it&#8217;s time to call in a handsome, charismatic leading man who can also beat a man to a pulp while keeping his hair immaculate.
Patrick Swayze, may he rest, initially took up the call in 1989 and this year it&#8217;s Jake Gyllenhaal&#8217;s turn. The slightly more violent of the Gyllenhaal acting siblings (much like Wu-Tang, Maggie ain&#8217;t nothin&#8217; to f&#8212; with) stars as ex-UFC fighter Dalton, who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Dalton&#8217;s described by one character as a real Mr. Rogers type&#8230;if Mr. Rogers &#8220;beats the living s&#8212; out of you.&#8221; But with so many scenes of a shirtless, ripped Dalton, you might still want to be his neighbor.

Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Road House is a reimagining of the &#8217;80s cult classic starring Swayze as another brawler named Dalton, who will stop at nothing — even ripping out a man&#8217;s throat — to protect Jasper, Mo.&#8217;s Double Deuce bar.
Liman moves the action to the Keys, land of seedy behavior and myriad Florida Men, with a cast that includes Shrinking&#8216;s Jessica Williams, The White Lotus&#8216; Lukas Gage, Broad City&#8216;s Arturo Castro, and actual UFC fighter Conor McGregor, in his film debut.
Gyllenhaal&#8217;s Dalton seems to meet his match in McGregror, who brings his trademark style to the role — the image of the neophyte actor walking away from an explosion in a brocade jacket with no pants feels like peak Conor McGregor.
