Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was the runner-up for MVP last season. Odds are – literally – he won’t be that close again this upcoming season.
Prescott, according to Betting Pros’ consensus, is tied for the seventh-best odds to win MVP in 2024 with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Betting Pros takes odds from a plethora of different betting sites to determine consensus odds, which means some outlets have Prescott higher and others have him lower.
Prescott’s consensus odds are +1600, which is also the lowest odds he has among all outlets Betting Pros considered. His highest odds are +2000, which can be found on both FanDuel and ESPN Bet.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the consensus favorite to win MVP. He’s won the award twice, including most recently in 2022.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson – the reigning MVP – are also above Hurts, Purdy and Prescott.
Jackson was the runaway winner last season, earning 49 of 50 first-place votes. Prescott came in second, though he didn’t receive a first-place vote. He had 17 second-place votes and 13 third-place votes. It was enough to edge out 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, the Offensive Player of the Year winner.
Last season may have been Prescott’s best season. He led the NFL with 36 passing touchdowns in the regular season. He only had nine interceptions, which was impressive, considering he had 15 in 12 games the previous season. Prescott also completed 69.5% of his passes for 4,516 yards, which was the second-most he’s had in his career.
There are reasons to believe Prescott could improve this coming season. It’ll be his second season in head coach Mike McCarthy’s offense. He also, currently, is scheduled to play on an expiring contract. A big performance in 2024 could result in an even bigger payday than what’s currently projected.
Prescott will also be playing behind an offensive line that’ll feature two new starters, including at left tackle. Rookie first-round pick Tyler Guyton is expected to be the starter there.
