Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s wellness brand has introduced a new product offering a natural alternative to popular weight loss drugs like Ozempic. This supplement promises to support metabolic health, reduce appetite, and promote weight management using natural ingredients.
According to an Instagram post, these capsules are “an all-natural supplement with no known side effects, powered by three clinically tested ingredients: Eriomin® Lemon Fruit Extract, Supresa® Saffron Extract, and Morosil™ Red Orange Fruit Extract.”
As consumers increasingly seek out plant-based, side-effect-free options for weight loss, the launch of this supplement has generated buzz. However, questions about the safety and effectiveness of such supplements remain.
We speak to Dr Vinutha G, senior consultant, Obstetrics, and gynaecologist at Athreya Hospital, who weighs in on whether these natural extracts can deliver the same results as pharmaceutical alternatives.

According to her, each of the ingredients in this GLP-1 daily supplement has unique properties that may influence health and weight:
Eriomin® (Lemon Fruit Extract): Eriomin® is a patented extract derived from lemons, says Dr Vinutha. “Some studies suggest it can help decrease body weight, body fat, and BMI (Body Mass Index). These effects are theorised to stem from its ability to regulate fat metabolism and promote fat burning.”
Supresa® (Saffron Extract): Saffron has long been used in traditional medicine, Dr Vinutha says, and Supresa® is a standardised extract. “Limited research indicates it may aid in weight management by potentially suppressing appetite and reducing snacking behaviours. This could be attributed to its impact on serotonin levels, a neurotransmitter involved in mood and appetite regulation.”
Morosil™ (Red Orange Extract): Dr Vinitha adds, “Morosil™ is extracted from Sicilian red oranges and contains high levels of anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants. Some studies suggest it may help reduce body fat and waist circumference by influencing fat metabolism and improving insulin sensitivity.”

NOTE: Dr Vinutha remarks, “While these initial findings sound promising, it’s important to remember that research on these extracts is still limited, and more robust studies are needed to establish their efficacy and safety definitively.”
Safety concerns and side effects
Natural doesn’t always mean risk-free, stresses Dr Vinutha. It’s essential to consider potential side effects and safety concerns, especially with long-term use.
*Eriomin®: While generally considered safe in the short term, long-term safety data is lacking. Some individuals may experience mild digestive issues like nausea or diarrhoea.
*Supresa®: Saffron extract is generally safe when consumed in moderate amounts, but high doses can cause side effects like dizziness, nausea, and dry mouth.
*Morosil™:  Red orange extract is generally well-tolerated, but long-term safety data is limited. Some individuals might experience mild digestive upset.
“Additionally, it’s important to note that these supplements are not regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), so the quality and purity of the ingredients can vary between brands. Always choose reputable brands and consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen,” she says.

Comparison with Ozempic
Kourtney Kardashian’s supplement is marketed as a ‘natural’ alternative to prescription medications like Ozempic, which contains a synthetic version of the GLP-1 hormone that regulates blood sugar and appetite, mentions Dr Vinutha. “While the ingredients may have some potential to influence weight loss, they are unlikely to mimic the potent effects of Ozempic or other GLP-1 receptor agonists.”
She adds that prescription medications like Ozempic have “undergone rigorous clinical trials demonstrating significant weight loss and metabolic improvements.” Natural extracts, while potentially beneficial, may not offer the same level of efficacy.
