Chris Brown sues Warner Bros and producers for $500m over documentary sexual assaults claims

Chris Brown has filed a $500m defamation lawsuit over a documentary which featured allegations of sexual assault.

The US singer shared details in a statement from his lawyers, posted on social media, which announced he was suing Warner Bros and producers Ample, along with other individuals.

It comes following the documentary, &#8220;Chris Brown: A History Of Violence,&#8221; which was released in October last year.

A spokesperson for ID, Warner Bros&#8217; documentary network, has said it stands by the programme.

The lawsuit, seen by Sky News, accuses producers of airing a programme that was &#8220;full of lies and deception&#8221; after being &#8220;provided proof that their information was false&#8221;.

Allegations by a woman referred to as Jane Doe in the documentary have been &#8220;discredited over and over&#8221;, lawyers for Brown say in the court filing.

Brown, 35, has &#8220;never been found guilty of any sex related crime&#8230; but this documentary states in every available fashion that he is a serial rapist and sexual abuser&#8221;, they add.

The singer has publicly acknowledged his &#8220;past mistakes&#8221; and addressed them in his own documentary, &#8220;Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life,&#8221; released in 2017, the lawsuit says.

&#8220;This case is about protecting the truth,&#8221; said Levi McCathern, Brown&#8217;s attorney, in a statement shared on social media. The documentary included &#8220;false and defamatory&#8221; information, he added, &#8220;undermining Mr Brown&#8217;s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life&#8221; and also &#8220;the credibility of true survivors of violence&#8221;.

If Brown is successful, he intends to donate &#8220;a portion&#8221; of the $500m to survivors of sexual abuse, the statement said.

The lawsuit was filed at LA&#8217;s superior court on Tuesday, lawyers said.

In 2009, the Freaky Friday singer pleaded guilty to assaulting his then girlfriend Rihanna.

In a statement sent to Sky News, an ID spokesperson said: &#8220;We stand behind the production and will vigorously defend ourselves against this lawsuit.&#8221;
