Dak Prescott could decide to copy Tom Brady in quitting the Dallas Cowboys to go somewhere with “less noise”, according to a leading NFL insider. The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his lucrative contract and there are question marks over his future, with the possibility of entering free agency not out of the question.

Prescott has been with the NFC East franchise since they acquired him as a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, leading many to question if it could be the ideal time to pursue a new challenge.

Reports suggest Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, has taken a step back and is hesitating towards offering Prescott a new deal.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo predicts Prescott could decide to leave Dallas when his contract expires and enter free agency in 2025, following in Brady‘s footsteps.

“To me, it’s not monetary. It’s the lore of being the quarterback of the Cowboys, and who knows he may be done with it,” Garafolo said.

“At some point, Tom Brady was done being quarterback for the Patriots and wanted to go somewhere else. He may say, ‘You know what, depending on how the season goes, enough of this. I’ve got the chance to go elsewhere. Let me go elsewhere with a lot less noise.’

“And I don’t know I’m projecting. But that may be part of it. He may want to play this out and say ‘let me see what my options are.'”

Brady famously departed the Patriots in 2020 to sign for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and guided the Florida outfit to the Super Bowl – claiming his seventh ring – the following year in 2021.

What Dak Prescott has said about his future

Prescott, who signed a four-year deal with the Cowboys worth $160million in 2021, would be an attractive option for several teams if the quarterback opts not to sign a contract extension.

However, Prescott is backing himself to earn a new deal in the final year of his contract and insisted he won’t be fazed by the prospect of playing for his future.

“It’s the urgency, you should always have to be honest,” he said.

“Maybe guys who normally wouldn’t feel it [now] feel it. I don’t mind it. I’ve been in this position before, I’m a gambling man, and I’ll gamble on myself and my guys.”
